How to Get a Medical Marijuana Card in Georgia?

There are currently almost 200,000 people who have registered with the state to use medical cannabis oil legally, according to records from the Department of Public Health. Applicants must be residents of Georgia and are required to pay an annual fee for registration cards that can cost up to $250 depending on income status. Procedures for getting approved are as follows:

  1. Physician certification – Once you have received your doctor’s referral, file your application online through the Georgia Department of Public Health’s website or mail it to their office. If you elect to submit your application electronically, you will receive temporary ID card within 24 hours of submission. Your red card should arrive via mail within 20 business days if filed by mail. Applicants will need to submit the following items:
  2. Submit a $75 check or money order payable to DPH for the total cost of the card.
  3. An applicant must fill out and sign an application form obtained from your county health department, available online at www.dph.ga.gov/medicalmarijuana, or received directly from your local health department office. You must sign this application in front of the county employee who gives you the form.
  4. A passport size photo with white background is needed along with proof of residency such as bank statement, utility bill etc., dated within 90 days prior to submittal date (NO PHOTOCOPIES).

* The patient and their caregiver, if applicable, must obtain a registry identification card together. The applicant does not need to be present when the caregiver submits their application to DPH.

This approval is valid for 6 months from the date of issue. Patients are required to re-register annually through their county health department or via the Department’s website at www.dph.ga.gov/medicalmarijuana.

You can apply at any age. There is no upper age limit for the use of medical marijuana in Georgia.

The process begins with making sure that you meet all of the qualifications and then receiving a recommendation from an approved doctor or physician licensed to practice medicine in the State of Georgia. After those steps are complete, you can apply for your Medical Marijuana Card through The Department of Public Health & Wellness (DPHW), which will ultimately determine whether or not you qualify as a patient.   • Step 1: Make an appointment with one of our friendly and knowledgeable cannabis industry professionals at ( 770) 564 – 7323 . We make appointments Mondays through Fridays 9am-5pm EST. This is NOT a medical office visit, this is just to consult with our professional about your options to obtain your medical marijuana card. For those who we feel might be a good fit, we will help you schedule your medical marijuana doctor appointment.
  • Step 2: After the initial consultation, our professional staff will contact you to schedule your medical marijuana doctor’s appointment at one of our trusted doctors in Georgia. This is where all of the work takes place. The process usually takes less than 20 minutes and includes a basic physical exam, blood pressure test and a brief interview about why you think medical cannabis could help you treat symptoms of your condition. We do not accept appointments for earlier than 10am or after 4pm. No exceptions! Our Medical Marijuana Doctors have accurate schedules to maintain so they can assist as many patients as possible with their time limits in office every day. In order to qualify for Georgia’s medical marijuana registry, you need to be diagnosed with qualifying condition.
  • Step 3: After completing your state-mandated physical exam by one of our trusted Medical Marijuana Doctors , you will receive an official recommendation for the State of Georgia. This is the document you must submit with all other required documents when applying for a Georgia Medical Marijuana Card. Keep in mind that it only takes 15 minutes to successfully complete this step in the process. Then it’s just waiting time until you are approved! Also, after each visit with our cannabis doctor, we provide insight into what questions they asked and what they were looking for so you can anticipate their questions on future visits with different doctors.
  • Step 4: After receiving your approval for a Medical Marijuana Patient Card by the State of Georgia, it is time to make an appointment with one of our local marijuana dispensaries in Atlanta . The final step is choosing which dispensary is best for you and making sure their products can help manage symptoms related to your condition. There are many reputable dispensaries in the state but we will point you into the right direction based on what city or county you live in.
