How to Renew Your Florida Medical Marijuana Card
Florida medicinal marijuana cards are valid for one year after they are issued. Patients can renew their cards up to 45 days before they expire. If you don't do this, the state will classify your card as delinquent, and you won't be allowed to use it. You may renew your MMJ card online or by mail.
Every seven months or 210 days, Florida patients are obliged by law to arrange a recertification visit with a medical marijuana physician. There are both in-person and online consultations available.
Follow these steps to renew your Florida medicinal marijuana card:
- Schedule a recertification appointment with one of the Sanctuary’s medical marijuana doctors
- Submit a renewal application through the MMUR online portal or by mail
- Pay the state’s $75 renewal fee
The OMMU typically reviews online applications within 10 business days of receiving them.
Medical Marijuana Approval Process in Tampa, FL
Obtain Your Medical Records from Your Primary Care Physician
First, you must obtain medical documents attesting to your qualifying condition(s) from your primary care doctor.
Schedule a Visit with a Medical Marijuana Doctor
Next, you must make an in-person appointment with a Florida medical marijuana doctor. The Sanctuary can help connect you with a doctor from Florida’s medicinal Mariuana Use Registry and get your appointment scheduled. If you have a qualifying ailment, your physician will add your information to the Florida Department of Medical Marijuana Use Registry, thereby officially recommending you for medicinal marijuana. You will subsequently be given a patient identification number.
Complete and Submit Your Application
Finally, you will receive an email with instructions for accessing the patient portal, where you may fill out an MMJ card application and pay the $75 fee.
In Florida, the OMMU is in charge of providing MMJ cards. Floridians who match the state's qualifications can apply for a Florida medicinal marijuana card.
Applicants under the age of 18 must specify an adult caregiver in both their application and MMUR. Only caregivers are authorized to purchase medicinal marijuana for minors.
Florida QUALIFYING CONDITIONS
To be eligible for an official Florida medical marijuana card, you must be diagnosed with one of the qualifying conditions listed below:
- Chronic non-cancerous pain stemming from another qualifying condition (according to the Office of Medical Marijuana Use)
- Crohn's disease
- Multiple sclerosis
- Parkinson's disease
- Terminal illness identified by a medical professional other than your medical marijuana doctor
- Conditions "of the same severity/symptoms" (including depression, anxiety, fibromyalgia, endometriosis, and PMS)
Medical marijuana users can only purchase and possess up to 2.5 ounces of smokable marijuana at a time. If your doctor believes you need more, he or she may submit an OMMU Request for Exception Form on your behalf.
Patients are not authorized to consume medicinal marijuana in public, but they are permitted to use non-smoking, low-THC products. Furthermore, patients and caregivers are not permitted to distribute medicinal marijuana to anyone else.
Finally, obtaining a Florida MMJ card does not allow you to cultivate your own medicinal cannabis.

How Do I Prove Florida Residency?
Applicants must be full-time or part-time residents of Florida to be eligible for a Florida MMJ card. A valid Florida driver's license or state identification card is required for full-time residents. When applying for a medical cannabis card as a full-time resident, the state will not accept other forms of proof of residency.
If a full-time resident applies online, the registry will check to confirm they have a driver's license or state ID with the DMV. Full-time residents must present a copy of their Florida driver's license or state ID card when applying on paper.

Temporary residents must provide copies of any two of the following documents:
