How to Renew Your Florida Medical Marijuana Card

Florida medical marijuana cards expire a year after being provided. Up to 45 days before their expiration, patients can renew their cards. You won't be able to use the card if you don't do this because the state will mark it as delinquent. You have the option of online or postal MMJ card renewal.

Florida patients are required by law to schedule a recertification appointment with a medical marijuana physician every seven months or 210 days. Both in-person and online consultations are available.

To renew your Florida medical marijuana card, follow these steps:

  • Schedule a recertification appointment with one of the Sanctuary’s medical marijuana doctors
  • Submit a renewal application through the MMUR online portal or by mail
  • Pay the state’s $75 renewal fee

Usually, it takes the OMMU 10 business days to review online applications after they receive them.

ABOUT

FloridaMedical Marijuana

The OMMU is in charge of issuing MMJ cards in Florida. A Florida medical marijuana card can only be applied for by Floridians who meet the state's requirements.

Under-18 applicants must name an adult caregiver in both their application and MMUR. Only caregivers are permitted to buy medical marijuana products for minors.

Florida QUALIFYING CONDITIONS

In order to be eligible to receive an official Florida medical marijuana card, you must be diagnosed with one of the following qualifying conditions:

Only 2.5 ounces of smokable marijuana can be bought and kept at one time by medical marijuana users. If your physician feels you require more, he or she may send an OMMU Request for Exception Form on your behalf.

Patients are not permitted to use medical marijuana in public, but non-smoking, low-THC products are permitted. Additionally, patients and caregivers are not allowed to distribute their medical marijuana to anyone else.

Last but not least, getting a Florida MMJ card does not allow you to grow your own medical cannabis.

How Do I Prove Florida Residency?

Applicants for Florida MMJ cards must be residents of Florida, either full-time or part-time. Full-time residents must show a valid Florida driver's license or state ID card. The state will not accept any other proof of residency when applying as a full-time resident.

Full-Time Residents

If a full-time resident applies online, the registry will check their driver's license or state ID with the DMV. If applying on paper, full-time residents must still submit a copy of their Florida driver's license or state identification card.

Temporary/Part-Time/Seasonal Residents

A temporary resident in Florida is defined as someone who:

  • Is a Florida resident for at least 31 days per calendar year
  • Returns to their home state at least once every calendar year
  • Is a registered voter in the United States or pays income taxes in another state

Temporary residents must provide any two of the following documents:

  • A mortgage, a deed, a monthly mortgage statement, a mortgage payment booklet, or a lease agreement
  • One proof of residential address from a person with whom the part-time resident lives, as well as a statement stating that the part-time resident lives there
  • A water, cable, or electric hookup/work order that is less than 60 days old
  • Bills for water, cable, or utilities that are less than 60 days old
  • Mail received from a financial institution that is less than 60 days old
  • Mail received from a federal, state, county, or city government agency within the last 60 days
