Since 2018, The Sanctuary Wellness Institute has helped thousands of Florida residents navigate the state’s medical marijuana program by connecting them with Florida-licensed, state-qualified medical marijuana physicians.

Many Florida patients report that physician-recommended medical cannabis helps manage symptoms related to qualifying conditions such as chronic pain, anxiety, and insomnia, when used under medical supervision in accordance with Florida law.

Medical Marijuana Card in Florida

The Sanctuary Wellness Institute assists Florida residents by coordinating evaluations with Florida Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU)–approved physicians who are legally authorized to recommend medical cannabis.

All medical marijuana evaluations are conducted by independent, Florida-licensed physicians registered with the state’s Medical Marijuana Use Registry (MMUR).

The Sanctuary Wellness Institute does not print, issue, or mail medical marijuana ID cards. Card processing, state fees, and registry access are handled directly between the patient and the Florida Department of Health’s Office of Medical Marijuana Use.

Understanding the Potential Side Effects of Medical Marijuana

Medical marijuana can be a helpful part of a treatment plan for qualifying medical conditions in Florida, but patients should be aware of potential side effects. Effects can vary depending on method of use, frequency, and THC-to-CBD ratio.

  • Respiratory issues: Smoking cannabis may irritate the lungs and lead to coughing or bronchitis. Alternatives such as vaporizers, edibles, or tinctures may be less harmful to respiratory health.
  • Tolerance and dependence: Frequent use may lead to tolerance, meaning higher doses may be needed for the same effect. Some patients may experience mild withdrawal-like symptoms, such as irritability or sleep disturbances, if use is reduced or stopped.
  • Cognitive impact: Long-term use, especially beginning at a young age, may affect memory, learning, and concentration.
  • Mental health considerations: Individuals with a history of anxiety, depression, or psychotic disorders should use caution, particularly with high-THC products.
  • Motivation or energy changes: Some users report lower energy, productivity, or motivation, sometimes called “amotivational effects.”

Understanding both benefits and potential effects helps patients make informed decisions consistent with Florida regulations. Medical marijuana should only be used under the guidance of a Florida-licensed, OMMU-registered physician.
