How to Renew Your Florida Medical Marijuana Card
Medical marijuana cards in Florida are valid for one year after they are granted. Patients have 45 days before their cards expire to renew them. If you do not do this, the state will declare your card delinquent and you will be unable to use it. Your MMJ card can be renewed online or by mail.
Florida patients are required by law to schedule a recertification visit with a medical marijuana physician every seven months or 210 days. In-person and online consultations are both available.
To renew your Florida medical marijuana card, follow these steps:
- Schedule a recertification appointment with one of the Sanctuary’s medical marijuana doctors
- Submit a renewal application through the MMUR online portal or by mail
- Pay the state’s $75 renewal fee
The OMMU reviews online applications within 10 business days of receiving them.
How to Get a Medical Marijuana Card in Lakeland, Florida
Call the Sanctuary to Schedule a Visit with a Certified Doctor
To receive a Florida cannabis card, you need to receive a certification from a qualified Florida physician. Our helpful staff will book your appointment with a qualified physician and explain the steps you need to take to obtain a medical marijuana card in Lakeland, Florida or elsewhere in the state.
Meet with a Florida Cannabis Doctor
Since only certain medical conditions qualify patients for cannabis use in Florida, such as multiple sclerosis and certain forms of chronic pain, you will need a referral from a qualified physician. At your appointment, you and your Florida cannabis doctor will discuss your qualifying condition(s), and they will perform an exam to ensure you meet the state’s requirements. If your doctor believes that you qualify for medical cannabis use, they will enter your information into the Medical Marijuana Use Registry (MMUR), which is overseen by the Florida Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU).
Submit Your Registration Through the State’s Website
You can submit Florida's medical marijuana application online or by mail after your marijuana doctor enters your data into the MMUR. You will be required to submit a passport-style photo, payment, and proof of residency. Your request for a Florida cannabis card will be approved or rejected by the OMMU after it has reviewed your application.
Visit a Medical Marijuana Treatment Center in Florida to Purchase Cannabis Products
If the OMMU grants you permission to use cannabis, a medical marijuana card will be mailed to you. Once you receive it, you’ll be able to buy medical marijuana at dispensaries located all over the state of Florida.
Florida Medical Marijuana
The OMMU is in charge of issuing MMJ cards in Florida. Floridians who meet the requirements of the state can apply for a Florida medicinal marijuana card.
Applicants under the age of 18 must provide the name of an adult caregiver in both their application and MMUR. Only caregivers are permitted to acquire medicinal marijuana on behalf of minors.
Medical marijuana users can only buy and possess 2.5 ounces of smokable marijuana at a time. If your doctor believes you require additional treatment, he or she may file an OMMU Request for Exception Form on your behalf.
