How to Get a Medical Marijuana Card in Pennsylvania

step 1

Register for the Medical Marijuana Program at medicalmarijuana.pa.gov

Before you can meet with a medical marijuana doctor, you will first need to create a patient profile on the Pennsylvania Department of Health website. You will need to provide a driver's license or ID card as proof of Pennsylvania residency, as well as personal information such as your name, email address, and phone number. Once you complete your registration, the system will provide you with a patient ID number. Bring this number with you to your appointment.

step 2

Meet with a Certified Doctor from the Sanctuary

Next, you will need to receive certification for a medical marijuana card from a doctor who has been certified with the PA Department of Health. For your convenience, you can schedule a telehealth appointment with one of The Sanctuary’s medical marijuana doctors. Your meeting will be brief, in which you will spend 10 to 15 minutes discussing your health concerns and any questions you might have regarding the use of medical marijuana. If your doctor decides that you qualify, they will give your certification that same day.

step 3

Complete Your Registration on the PA DOH Website

You must complete your registration after being certified by a medicinal marijuana doctor. After your doctor uploads your certification, the DOH should send you an email with additional instructions. You must first log in to your account and pay a $50 fee. Following payment, the DOH will ship your medical marijuana card to the address on your Pennsylvania driver's license.

How to Renew Your Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Card

It is relatively easy to renew your medical marijuana card in Pennsylvania. It is simply necessary to receive an updated certificate and pay the renewal charge. You can remain a patient for as long as you like after enrolling in the state's registry.

To acquire cannabis from a dispensary in Pennsylvania, your certification must be updated every 12 months. The mandatory follow-up appointment each year ensures medical marijuana is still safe and effective for each individual patient.

You will receive an email 60 days before your certificate expires reminding you to renew it. You can then schedule an appointment with one of the Sanctuary's authorized medical marijuana doctors online. This appointment will be similar to the first consultation.

In addition, 30 days before your renewal payment is due, the Department of Health will send you an email reminder. You may then log in to your account and make sure you have a valid payment method on file. If you pay your $50 renewal charge within 30 days of receiving this notice, your card will not expire.

Your doctor will inquire about your symptoms as well as your reaction to medical marijuana treatment. Based on your own experiences, you can ask questions about topics such as dosing and side effects. Your certification will be sent to the state's registry by the doctor. It will connect to your account right away.

Make sure to check your address on file is correct. If your doctor's certificate is current and your payment is accepted, the state will instantly mail you a replacement card.

How to Become a Medical Marijuana Caregiver

Medical marijuana caregivers in Pennsylvania are those who register with the state's medical marijuana program in order to acquire medicinal marijuana on behalf of kids, homebound adults, and people with disabilities. Registered caregivers must be at least 21 years old and have a valid Pennsylvania driver's license or state-issued ID.

  1. As a caregiver, you must register with the Department of Health. To set up your account, you will need to submit the name of the patient you will be supporting, their program ID number, as well as your name and address.
  2. Complete a criminal background check using the vendor provided by the state. Individuals who have been convicted of a criminal charge for selling or having narcotics or controlled substances within the last five years are not eligible to become caregivers. After your fingerprinting appointment, background checks can take up to six weeks to process.

  1. Once you pass the background check, the state will contact you through email. After that, you can pay the $50 registration cost. Medical marijuana cards for caregivers have an annual expiration date.
  2. Make an appointment with one of our physicians online.

As a caregiver, you can only access dispensaries and buy marijuana if your account is linked to a registered patient. If you serve as an adult's caregiver, they can allow you to purchase cannabis goods on their behalf by linking you as their caregiver on their online account. To become patients, minors or individuals with disabilities must register with you as their caregiver.
