Why Get a Medical Marijuana Card in a Recreational State?

Since Massachusetts recently legalized cannabis, many people are surprised to learn that there are still laws regulating marijuana in the commonwealth. Massachusetts has created these regulations in order to make the process of obtaining medical marijuana as easy as possible for patients. This means that you can still get your medical card and purchase your medication without any unnecessary changes made to the process. By following certain regulations set out by the DPH, patients can continue receiving their prescription without being affected by the legalization of cannabis.

If you are a qualifying patient in Massachusetts, then you can continue to purchase medical marijuana at any of the licensed dispensaries throughout the commonwealth. You also can possess as much as 10 ounces of cannabis flower and have a 60-day supply of cannabis products. The DPH has also created regulations stating that all products sold at dispensaries must be lab tested for safety and quality. This means that patients can trust that they are receiving high-quality medication from licensed dispensaries.

Some benefits of having a medical marijuana card in a recreational state include:

  • You can purchase more than just flower at your dispensary. Some dispensaries may offer edibles, tinctures, topicals, and other cannabis products that you cannot buy without a medical card.
  • More variety. Patients who have medical cards typically have access to different strains of cannabis than those who do not. This means that patients using cannabis for chronic pain or anxiety will be able to find something better suited than what they would receive at a recreational dispensary.
  • More affordable pricing. Since dispensaries are only allowed to sell medical marijuana to qualifying patients, the prices are much lower compared to recreational shops where anyone can spend as much money as they want on whatever they please. With lower prices, patients will be able to save money and better manage their conditions.
  • Easier access to medication. Patients do not have to worry about changes in the process of obtaining their medical marijuana card just because cannabis is now legal. This means that they can go about their day-to-day lives without any interruptions and continue to receive the treatment they need.

Although cannabis is now legal in Massachusetts, patients can still get their medical marijuana card and purchase medication at licensed dispensaries. By following the regulations set out by the DPH, patients can feel confident that they are receiving high-quality products that will help them manage their conditions.
