The Sanctuary will connect you with a licensed Delaware physician who can verify your condition and certify you for the Medical Marijuana Program (MMP). You will need to establish a bona fide relationship with your medical marijuana doctor, which may require consistent visits for your condition.
After your marijuana doctor confirms you have a qualifying condition, you will need to register with the Delaware MMP. You will need to submit an application online or via mail, and you will need to renew your registration each year. It may take up to 45 days to process your application.
Once you receive your medical marijuana card, you are eligible to purchase cannabis at any of the authorized compassion centers operating within Delaware. You can visit a compassion center in many locations, including Wilmington, Smyrna, and Newark.
Medical marijuana has been legal in Delaware since 2011, with the passage of the Delaware Medical Marijuana Act (DMMA). In 2015, Delaware’s House Bill 39 decriminalized the possession of cannabis as well, making the possession of less than one ounce of marijuana a misdemeanor. However, Delaware has not legalized cannabis statewide -- making it a necessity for persons who need marijuana to treat a qualifying condition to apply for a cannabis card.
